SketchbooksI started keeping sketch books as a first year architecture student. We were required to have one, and use it daily. There was no control over what we drew, so I drew whatever came to mind, or caught my eye. After that year, I continued to maintain sketchbooks. Without the requirement to draw daily, I began to focus more on quality as opposed to quantity, only drawing when motivated. These days, I no longer spend much time drawing in sketchbooks, spending more time on large projects, or with electronic media. I occasionally add to my current sketchbook, as I see the books as sort of a chronology of my progress through life.

This is the sketchbook I started in my first year in the Environmental Design College at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Due to the nature of my coursework, many of the images are of an architectural nature, often drawn in class. Most of the other pictures are drawn from just about anything that caught my eye.

This book continues the 'tradition' started in the first sketchbook. I began to focus more on composition and imagination. Although I still continued to draw from images in magazines, I started working them into my own compositions.
